The meatballs my mother made
IN 6 TH AND 7 TH GRADE IN MONTREAL , CANADA, I LEARNED SOME PRINCIPLES OF COOKING IN THE HOME ECONOMICS CLASSES THEY OFFERED AT THE TIME. I THINK THAT IT WAS BECAUSE OF THIS JUMP START INTO COOKING THAT MAMI DECIDED I SHOULD BE IN CHARGE OF PREPARING SOME EASY DISHES FOR OUR FAMILY. TWO OF THESE WERE ITALIAN MEATBALLS AND MEATLOAF. YEARS LATER I WOULD SUBSTITUTE GROUND TURKEY FOR THE BEEF, BUT THE OTHER INGREDIENTS WERE NOT ALTERED. WE MOVED TO MONTREAL IN CANADA IN 1966, WHEN I WAS 12 YEARS OLD. DURING MY 13 TH YEAR, MAMI TAUGHT ME SEVERAL RECIPES TO COOK, AND SHE ESPECIALLY GAVE ME THE CHARGE OF MAKING MEATBALLS OR MEATLOAF.
